Emergency drills to be conducted in two venues

The Department of Disaster Management and Civil Defence is conducting radiological emergency mock drills in two places of the city to ensure safety in case of real-life radiation emergencies. The mock drills will be based on the detection of radioactive hazards and decontamination of such radioactive materials. Two such mock drills will be conducted in two venues of the city – one at NRS Medical College and Hospital on Thursday, March 28 and the other at South City Mall on Friday, March 29. The mock drill at South City Mall will be conducted from 7 – 9 am, before it is open for public entry.  The mock drill is being organised by the department of Disaster Management and Civil Defence in collaboration with NDRF, disaster management groups of Kolkata Police and Bengal Police, Civil Defence, and Fire Department. Other departments of Kolkata Municipal Corporation and State Health Department will also be a part of the mock drills. The drills are mainly being conducted to test the efficiency of the agencies stationed at both the venues to deal with emergency situations.
