Eastern Railway Approves Majerhat Bridge

Majerhat Bridge received its final nod from Eastern Railway (ER) on Friday, after it withheld its approval. Eastern Railway returned the general arrangement drawing (GAD), the bridge’s master plan on 14 February, to PWD currently building the new Majerhat rail overbridge (ROB) and asked the state department to factor in the Metro piers that have long been planned for Joka-Esplanade corridor’s extension. PWD was asked by ER to resubmit its application only after revising the GAD. The final design of the Majerhat ROB will be based on this GAD and construction will take place following final clearance from the railways.

An overall view of the bridge will be given by GAD and it includes a plan, an elevation, atypical cross-section, a site plan, a suitable skew diagram, and a vertical alignment diagram. One of the concerning factors were the nine Metro piers that overlap with the new bridge’s north-western approach. PWD also wants to widen another one positioned right in the middle of the road next to the bridge. PWD also incorporated all the nine Metro piers in the revised GAD and had RVNL and Metro Railway to sign their consent on it.
