Kolkata witnessed an evening of celebration as leading Chartered Accountants from India joined together to celebrate the Eastern India Regional Awards Ceremony on 24th February 2018.
Highlights of the evening included the announcement from Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) that Eastern Indian Regional Council (EIRC) received the award as the 2nd Best Regional Council for the year 2017 and ICAI also awarded the 2nd prize to Eastern India Chartered Accountants Students Association of EIRC. However, the major highlight was the announcement of CA. Sonu Jain as the first ever woman as Chairperson of Eastern India Regional Council of ICAI.
The evening started with the Motto of the ICAI, and thereafter CA.Manish Goyal, the current Chairperson of the EIRC welcomed and thanked everyone for the accomplishments through 2017 which culminated to EIRC receiving the Second Best Regions award in India. “I personally believe there could be no word bigger, heavier and mightier than the word ‘thanks’. Thanks to all of you for the love and affection of all my council colleagues, all my branch members, all the study circle students and all staffs and employees of EIRC, for holding my hand; and helping me to be able to discharge the responsibilities conferred upon as Chairperson of EIRC” Manish Goyal said. The members of the institute then one by one congratulated Manish Goyal and team consisting of Sonu Jain, Manish Sangvi and others for receiving the 2nd best Regional Council Award.
It was then announced that EIRC has elected CA. Sonu Jain, as the Chairperson of EIRC for the year 2018, succeeding CA. Manish Goyal upon the completion of his term. This announcement comes as big feather to the cap of the people of Kolkata and Bengal as CA. Sonu Jain becomes one of the few women of Bengal to have proven her immense potential, power and worth in a profession usually dominated by men.
Commenting on her appointment, CA. Sonu Jain said, “Thank you for giving me the opportunity to serve as the Chairperson of EIRC ICAI. I am truly honoured by the trust you have instilled in me and I am very blessed to get to work. I know that I have a big responsibility to fill and promise that I will give it my all. I am privileged to be working with such a great group of elected officials. You can count on me to find innovative ways to communicate so that we can work together to reach new milestones”.
The Students Association Award followed next, where Best (Large & Medium Category) award went to Siliguri Branch, while the Best (Small Category) award went to Rourkela Branch and Best (Micro Category) award went to Tinsukia Branch.
Following this, the Best Branch awards were given to Siliguri Branch, Rourkela Branch and Tinsukia Branch for Large & Medium category, Small Category and Micro Category respectively.
The 2nd portion of the evening began with a spellbinding performance by the band members of HumSufi.
The evening came to a fitting end with CA. Sonu Jain concluding with a Vote of Thanks.
