East-West Metro is all set for trials

Kolkata’s East-West metro is all set for the test runs. The East-West metro corridor will connect Howrah Maidan with Salt Lake Sector V and a part of it will pass beneath the Hooghly river. The trials as of now will cover 5.7km and run between Sector V and Salt Lake Stadium for four a day over a week. The East-West metro will have some modern technologies and in order to get their staff familiar with this new technology. The trial run will cover six stations; Sector V, Karunamoyee, Central Park, City Centre, Bengal Chemical and Salt Lake Stadium. These stations will be fully operational during this trial. The metro Railway CPRO Indrani Banerjee said the motormen, controllers and booking staff have been trained and will work as if operations have started. The six stations will have one operational booking counter during the trial and the metro personnel will be issuing tickets as well. The metro is being built by the Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation (KMRC), which is an independent agency owned by the railways and partially by the urban development ministry. The East-West metro involves advance technology which reduces the work of the driver to minimum. The complete movement of the trains will be monitored and the observations will be recorded. The main aim behind the trial run is to help the metro staff gain confidence and be able to operate the advanced technology skilfully.
