The East-West Metro authorities have recently reported that if everything goes according to the schedule, the services will be operational before Durga Puja. The first phase of the E-W Metro stretches from Salt Lake Sector V to Salt Lake Stadium and has six stations in that route - Sector V, Karunamoyee, Central Park, City Centre, Bengal Chemical and Salt Lake Stadium. The E-W Metro has already received all the required clearances from the concerned authorities but is yet to announce the inauguration date. A senior official of Kolkata Metro Railway Corporation Ltd (KMRCL) said, "We want to have everything in place so that there are no hiccups once the service kicks off. The technology that will be used is high end and the facilities will be of the best quality". The project has received a NO Objection Certificate from the Railway Board and the Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) for commercial services as well. Eight high-tech metro rakes have been procured for the services on this route from the Bengaluru-based PSU BEML. The total stretch of the E-W Metro corridor is from Salt Lake Sector V to Howrah Maidan which covers a distance of 16.5 kilometres.
