E-toilet to be installed in the city

The state Urban Development Minister Firhad Hakim announced on Thursday that the city will get its first coin-operated, self-cleaning public toilets. It will be installed first at Rabindra Sadan.

The toilets would be automated with coin-slots to regulate its use. A person will have to insert a pre-determined amount of coins to get access to the toilet. After using the toilet when the door will be opened to exit; the flush with a disinfectant will automatically clean the commode. The state plans to set up more such toilets across the state.

The rest depends on the civic sense of the users. They need to make sure that they keep the floors dry and clean and wait for their turn rather than barging in. Meanwhile, there are 370 public toilets across the city among which most are operated by Sulabh International. There is an attendant appointed at these facilities who collects a token amount and maintains basic cleanliness in these toilets.
