He is not young anymore, and might not be able to chase goons or solve mystery. Abir Chatterjee is back and he will be stepping into the shoes of Byomkesh Bakshi again. The audience is eagerly waiting to see an older Byomkesh Bakshi in Debaloy Bhattacharya’s film “Bidaay Byomkesh’’. The shooting for “Bidaay Byomkesh” has started and if the Tollywood gossips are to be believed, the film is not based on any of the Byomkesh stories written by Bengali novelist Sharadindu Bandypadhyay which assumes that the film will have a few surprises up its sleeve!
In this movie, Byomkesh is playing the role of an octogenarian, has a receding hairline and his prime interests are gardening and clay modelling. He is being portrayed as a man who has gone into hibernation and is broken. Even two of his favourite people, his wife Satyabati and dear friend Ajit have expired. Lonely old Byomkesh stays with his sister-in-law Anasua and grandson Satyaki Bakshi.
Abir, who played Byomkesh in other films directed by Arindam Sil and Anjan Dutta, will reprise his role as the popular Bengali sleuth but of course in an older avatar. The interesting fact is Abir will also play Byomkesh’s grandson Satyaki Bakshi and the duo will be cracking a case on a quest to search for the missing son of Byomkesh.
In a recent interview, Abir stated, “it was very challenging to slip into the role of both characters.” Sohini Sarkar reprises her role as Byomkesh’s wife Satyabati as well as the girlfriend of Satyaki. Well it will be quite interesting to know, whether or not Satyaki will carry on his grandfather’s legacy.
The film is slated to release later this year.
