Did you Know “Holi” is not called “Holi” around the world?

The real motive behind any festival is to take a break from the daily mundane life and to make it a bit interesting. Speaking about making things interesting, what can be better than playing Holi and creating good memories? Of all the Indian Festivals, Holi is one of the most famous festivals around the world. The Festival of colours is celebrated irrespective of religion, sex, caste, social status, people come together and it is celebrated like one big family.

Well, Holi celebration marks the arrival of spring; the festival of colour knows no bars and boundaries. It is quite interesting that not just India, people across the globe participates in this festival. Some have different reason and some have a different season, beyond India there are some places where holi is celebrated and they even have different names for it.

Though the method remains the same, throwing colours at friends and strangers “Kyu ki....burana mano, holi hai”.

Los Angeles

Los Angeles celebrates Holi with the same rule and regulations. Instead of the word “Holi” it is “Throwing colours” for the L.A citizen. They specially emphasize on music, painting and many more. The locals celebrate the festival with live show, yoga, dancing and feasting with the family. In Excelsior High school in Norwalk, holi is celebrated at the Krishna temple.

Berlin

Before 2012, the official celebration never happened throughout Europe. The first ever “Holi” celebration started in Berlin, Germany. The Metaxa beach is famous spot where every year without any fail the country experiences and celebrates the event. Indian dj's, traditional dancers are invited to keep the mood of the traditional festival alive. Around 20-30 thousand people gather around every year.

Cape Town

“One colour” is the name for Holi. At least 13 thousand people gather for this Grand Parade at the bottom of Table Mountain every year. The “open environment” seems to be more magical for the participants. Along with Cape Town, Durban celebrates Holi with full enthusiasm.

Thailand

“Water fight” is the name for the spring festival in Thailand. Instead of February, this festival is celebrated at the beginning of every year. Water balloons are thrown at each other much like the Tomatina festival. However, the natives celebrate this festival in the month of April.

Texas

Inspired by Indian culture in 2015, “Colour Jam” is the festival called in Texas. The main attraction of this festival is music concerts and Indian dance.

London

London

This one is fun for sure, every year London organises a marathon for everyone. This marathon has only one rule, the participants have to wear a white t-shirt. During this 5 kilometre run the participants must be covered with vibrant colours from head to toe. London is famous for its “Colour run” concept. This event is held every year at Manchester, Glasgow and Birmingham.
