The Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) took the initiative to enhance the water capacity of Dhapa water treatment plant. The plant is responsible for supplying water to the locality around EM Bypass and places adjoining the Jadavpur area. The enhancement is expected to be in the range of 10 million gallons per day, once the proposal is sanctioned. Currently, 30 million gallons of water is produced per day to meet the needs of the common people. Apparently, the increase of water supply would be beneficial to the residents of Baghajatin, Santoshpur, Garfa, Haltu and Patuli, Mukundapur, Kalikapur, Madurdaha and the adjacent regions. However, the project has its limitations, with the treated water proving to be insufficient to ‘cater to the drinking water needs’. The augmentation process is soon to take place once the estimation of project cost is estimated and is sanctioned by the authorities.
