Moumita Saha (23), an aspiring Television actress was found hanging in her flat on 10th March, leaving the TV industry in a state of shock. She was a part of the Bengali serial “Swapno Udan”. According to reports, the actress was suffering from depression due to lack of professional success. Recently, depression and anxiety caused significant impairment in the daily life of the TV actress. In 2015, Bengali television industry lost talented Disha Ganguly due to SAD (Seasonal Affective Depression). Disha was a known face in TV industry circuit and was part of successful serials like “BouKotha Kao”, “TumiAshbe Bole” and “Kanakanjali”. High expectations, need for money or even lack of work creates a big void in their lives and ultimately things take a turn towards the worst.
According to Psychologist Annirudha Mukherjee of a reputed medical college near Jadavpur stated that, “life of struggling actresses is not easy. In search of temporary relief some start taking drugs and alcohol, which makes the situation even more vulnerable.”
Symptoms of depression:
- Sadness that doesn’t go away;
- Avoiding people, sometimes close friends;
- Very strong feeling of worthlessness;
- Loss of appetite;
- Self harm- tendency of suicide;
- Feeling anxious all the time;
- Sleeping disorder;
- Loss of self-confidence and self-esteem.
It is advisable that instead of succumbing to pressure, one should consult a doctor or a specialist just as we normally do when we fall sick.
