Next year from March onwards a city-based heritage cruise via Sunderbans will connect West Bengal and ‘East’ Bengal. It will cost 60,000-75,000 INR for each person and take 6-7 days to reach Dhaka. Through bilateral treaties two countries agreed upon protocol routes which cover Kolkata, Namkhana, Barishal, Narayanganj and Dhaka.
“It has been decided that one of the river cruise operators will start operations in Kolkata from March 2019. The cruise will take the Kolkata-Sunderbans route and, via protocol route, reach Bangladesh and travel to the northeast.” Said SVK Reddy, a member of Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI).
