Kolkata was primarily a peaceful city sustaining within an affordable ambience. It has not come beneath the corporate hold for a long time, but now the scenario of the corporate culture is changing rapidly. Large corporates and MNCs are swooping into the city.
Before
A regular day in a corporate professional's life has seen large conversion since yesteryears. More than corporate life, Kolkata was familiarized with a time assigned to as “office time”. Waking up stress-free , read newspaper with a cup of tea, indulge in some fish shopping, feed on a plateful of rice for breakfast, drop your kids to school and then gleefully go to work. Work then was stress free and by 5 pm one used to be pack up and head home.
Now
The city of joy has been acquainted to the frightful corporate life. Wake up early, breakfast on the run, tight schedule at offices, loads of presentations and deadlines and head home way beyond the working hours, parties only to alter stress. This is how the current corporate life emerges.
Kolkata once has seen dark days in the sector of industrial development. Though there are few existing heavy industries and corporate office located in Kolkata, but it has not seen much MNCs compared to other metropolitan cities.
Rajarhat and Sector V now is known as a hub for corporates as all the big shot MNCs has been developed in these area , companies like HCL, IBM, Cognizant or even Delloite are running here and employing resources.
Kolkata before was a home for doctors, professors, teachers or government jobs, but now varied jobs have made an entry. Software professionals surely occupy lump of working crowd in Kolkata. The cost of living is a biggest advantage for the people working here. Whether it is food or rent or transportation, the city runs at cost effective rates. One can survive here with a salary of INR 10,000 and live healthy lifestyle.
The biggest disadvantage of corporate life in Kolkata is the pay format. To other cosmopolitan cities the salary format is 30% lower. This is one of the reasons why the city-dwellers are migrating to other cities as people do not see Kolkata as a corporate hub to seek a fulfilling career.
The poor infrastructure of sufficient facilities is one of the disadvantages in corporate life. Though salt lake sector V has witnessed awful construction, but overall infrastructure in the city needs to develop in order to increase the corporate hub.
