Concentrate on Concentrating

Are you doing something and thinking something else? Mood swings and mind diversions pissing you off and undermining your performance? You might want to blame the social networking sites that you are hooked onto for most part of your day. To some extent that is undeniably correct but; there are a few other reasons:

Let us discuss a few things that can help you build a better concentration and enhances your ability to avoid distractions:

1. Too many things to do are a possible cause of distraction and which leads you to jump from one task to another without achieving too much. It’s better if you take some time out to decide what you need to concentrate on. Set a priority list and focus on that.

2. Try and follow others. While it is not advisable to monitor others but you should do it sometimes. See how other people are sitting and focussing on a particular job and try to emulate them.

3. As we spend most of our waking hours staring at screens, be it televisions or mobiles or laptops; these can severely strain the eyes thus making it difficult for us to concentrate and process what we look at. It is advisable to stare at a distant object every 20-30 minutes which is at least 20 feet away from you.

4. Sleep deprivation often leads to poor concentration levels as our brain needs to rest and re-charge. Getting a good 8 hours sleep before a busy day can be the difference between making and breaking your concentration levels.

5. Take small breaks in between your work because that will provide you with the space to breathe a little. Moreover, this will help you concentrate on your work when you come back from the small discontinuity.
