In order to save time, the commuters would be able to use the same card to avail the East-West and North-South Metros. A ‘common mobility card’ would be functional for the East-West Metro starting early next year. The integrated ticketing system would be issued to the traveler for both the routes, so that the people don’t need to buy separate tickets. The Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation, monitoring the Rs 8575-crore East-West Metro project connecting Howrah Maidan and Salt Lake Sector V would be bearing the cost of the mobility cards. The mobility cards could be made more effective, if the same card can be used for availing state and CTC buses and trams. KMRC would soon be processing requests for appointing a bank to take care of all the financial transactions. The first phase of the East-West Metro connecting Sector V and Salt Lake Stadium would be commissioned next year. And following this, the Phoolbagan station would also be connected. Finally, the East-West would be connected to the North-South at Esplanade by 2021.
