College service commission to recruit teachers

The State College Service Commission has reported that it will conduct the process of recruitment of 2,000 assistant professors for state-aided colleges before the Puja holidays begin. The recruitment drive was kicked off by the commission in August, 2018. The interviewing sessions are being held since January this year. Dipak Kar, the chairman of West Bengal College Service Commission said, “The recruitment process will be completed before Durga Puja. Colleges will issue the final appointment letters after Puja. All selected candidates will join the colleges by the end of this year. A fresh round of recruitment drive is set to start again towards the beginning of next year”. The commission had advertised last year for applications for these posts, to fill up the vacancy, after which 28,000 applications were registered for 2,000 posts. The commission had initially planned to complete the recruitment process by October 2018, but it got delayed twice. Once since the colleges requested for more time to send their requisitions to the commission and again in May 2019 due to general elections. This is the first time that such a huge number of recruitment will be done in one go. Bengal currently has 540 state funded colleges and 14,000 teaching posts.
