CMC to sterilize stray dogs

The Calcutta Municipal Corporation decided to take a step for the welfare of both the stray dogs and the citizens of Kolkata. They want to organize dog sterilization camps on campuses of government-run hospitals and educational institutions. CMC is writing to these institutions requesting the same. The move has been hugely appreciated by the animal lovers of the city. The campuses have stray dogs roaming around.

The Deputy Mayor of Kolkata said that some of the dogs are brought in the dog pound for sterilization and administering anti-rabies vaccines. Those dogs are carried back to the respective places they have been taken from after the procedure is over. But the authorities are not allowed to remove all dogs. Since March last year, CMC has sterilized 8,820 dogs and injected anti-rabies to 25,000 dogs. The dogs may get hostile sometimes which creates panic among the common people and they might even bite someone so taking precautions beforehand is better.
