Children’s Film Festival

Nandan, Kolkata

The 8th Kolkata International Children’s Film Festival will be starting from 20th January till 27th. 200 films from 35 different countries across the globe will be shown in this festival. Eight venues have been decided for the festival that includes Nandan I, II, III, Sishir Mancha, Ahindra Mancha, Rabindra Sadan, Rabindra Okakura Bhavan, and Star theatre.

The inaugural film to be screened is ‘Walking with the Wind’, directed by Praveen Morchhale and the closing film will be Jim, Button and Luke- The Engine Driver of Germany by Dennis Gansel. As few days back eminent director Mrinal Sen passed away, the film festival will pay tribute to him as well. New additions have been made to the list of films including films from Brazil, Ireland, Estonia, Italy, Serbia, Portugal, Norway, Sri Lanka, and Romania.

The films have been categorized into several categories: - Sci-fi, blockbuster, retrospective, world cinema, seven classics, and literature and cinema. This year the special publication is Sandip Ray’s edited Goopi Gyne Bagha Byne 50 and Icche Danar Ora Uri- a personal reminiscence of film personalities. The inaugural ceremony will be held at Nandan I on January 20th. Eminent personalities like State Education Minister, Minister of State for Information and Cultural Affairs department, Filmmaker Sandip Ray and Arpita Ghose and others as well.
