Very few Bengali cinemas try to break the limitations that are forcibly imposed on the creative sectors. The directors don’t really always have the guts to come up with the ignored part of the society or any individual. Let us take into account a few such movies which have made a bold move.
Khawto: Director Kamaleshwar Mukherjee came up with an erotic thriller, which narrates the story of a novelist Nirbed Lahiri who shared an illegitimate and complex relationship with a woman. Paoli Dam, Prasenjit Chatterjee and Raima Sen were the lead cast in the movie.
Rajkahini: The Srijit Mukherjee directorial upholds the story of prostitutes residing in a brothel that goes along the Radcliff Line. The movie earned an ‘A’ certificate.
Cosmic Sex: The movie is directed by Amitabh Chakraborty and it revolves around the ‘Baul’ concept of DehaTathya. The movie was also screened at Osian's Cine Fan Festival of Arab and Asian Cinema and International Film Festival of Kerala.
Chatrak: This was the most controversial movie of the year 2011and Paoli Dam’s sexual act in the movie grabbed the attention of many. Vimukthi Jayasundara, the Srilankan director, directed it.
Chitrangada: This Rituparno Ghosh directorial showcases the urge of a man to attain womanhood and finally ended with an affirmative tone. It absolutely justified the tagline ‘The Crowning Wish’.
