The work on the two box bridges parallel to Karunamoyee Bridge over Tolly’s Nullah will be beginning soon, according to the Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority (KMDA). The foundation laying work has been already started by the concerned engineers for the retaining walls of the bridges. One of the bridges will be connecting BL Saha Road, near Diamond City (south), to Canal Bank, adjoining Tollygunge Club. While the other one would be connecting Izzatulla Lane to BL Saha Road, near Siriti via K P Ray Lane. The construction work for the retaining walls along the Canal Bank Road will commence within a couple of weeks. The retaining walls have been estimated to cost around Rs 2.08 crore, with the other retaining wall to be set up along NN Ghosh Road near Karunamoyee. And the initiative is crucial as both the Tollygunge and Karunamoyee bridges have been bearing the burden of the traffic since the collapse of the Majerhat Bridge.
