Book on Victoria’s Garden

Kolkata’s Victoria Memorial is a popular tourist spot and is visited by hundreds of people every day. The marble structure is very beautiful and so is the garden attached to it. The garden is a famous hanging spot; it is filled with different kinds of flora and fauna. The authorities have decided to let people know of the varied flora and fauna found in the garden through a book. According to a survey, there are around 100 different kinds of birds, 40 species of bees, 50 kinds of butterflies, varieties of snakes, lizards and many other different insects and animals. There are over 500 different kinds of trees including the Calabash tree of Central and South America. The proposed book will have every detail including how the garden and the waterbody is maintained. Jayanta Sengupta, the curator, and secretary of Victoria Memorial said,

We want to project the Victoria Memorial highlighting the inclusivity we nurture. We had written to the West Bengal Biodiversity Board to undertake a study of the animals, birds, reptiles, and fishes present in the garden and the water body in the memorial. They have consented and soon a joint meeting will be held to finalize the matter.
