On 7th August the city of joy witnessed the launch of a forum called Gramophone Association Bangla or GAB to anticipate and recognize the changing trend of music. The event took place at ICCR, Kolkata. Renowned personalities like Haimanti Shukla, Bickram Ghosh, Srikanto Acharya, Lopamudra Mitra, Tanmoy Bose, Raghab Chatterjee, Srijato, Joy Sarkar, Sraboni Sen, Jayati Chakraborty, Sreeradha Banerjee, Upal Sengupta, Surojit Chatterjee, Padmashree Ms.Usha Uthup and others were present at the event.
The fraternity presented their mascot who cleans ears; in explanation to choosing such a mascot the show presenter Goutam Jain said its high time people clean their ears which got blocked by recent music that is only commercial and lacks Bengal’s culture.
It is not unknown to all that Bengal is rich in literary culture, it is the birthplace of great poet-songwriter and Nobel Laureates. There are several music genres from folk, classics to rock and band music. But with time they are losing their ground to film music. So, to change the setup this forum is created, that will give recognition to the world of music that is on the verge of extinction.
The main objective of this forum is to promote Bengal’s music for the benefit of people and society, also to encourage the growth of Bengali music. The fraternity member included Usha Utthup as the chairman of this trust, Pratik Choudhury, Prem Gupta, Mahua Lahiri and others. The trust is to raise funds for the benefit of the music industry.
