The $18- billion Vedanta group may consider the West Bengal government as their partner for the exploration of Deocha Pachami coal block . The 2-billion-tonne coal block in Birbhum district is the largest coal block in Asia and second largest in the world . Vedanta’s founder and executive chairman Anil Agarwal was in Kolkata on Tuesday for an interactive session with Bharat Chamber of Commerce. When asked about his group’s views on Deocha Pachami block and possible partnership with the state to develop it , Agarwal told the block could change the face of Bengal . "The state can get huge revenue from the block ,this could be a game-changer . At Least 50%of the state’s revenue may come from this" . Agarwal pointed out that Bengal should move fast to explore the mine . “We may consider partnering the state if proper process is followed .In India , making one-to-one deal is difficult. There should be a tender,” he told . Agarwal also urged BCC president Sitaram Sharma to form an expert group for mining that would be ready to fund for the research activities . Coincidentally , the Mamata Banerjee government plans to approach the centre for merchant mining at Deocha Pachami . The centre had allotted the block to the state on June 6th 2018 for captive use by West Bengal Power Development Corporation, the Bengal government’s thermal power generation arm . The coal block’s development project requires an investment of over Rs 60,000 crore, directly and indirectly . It has an employment potential of 1.10 lakh .
