On 1st May 2018 Bengal International Short Film Festival felicitated veterans from Bengali Film Industry at their inaugural ceremony. On the occasion, the Hiralal Sen Award was conferred upon the legendary actor Sri Soumitra Chatterjee by Mr Bratya Basu and Prosenjit Chatterjee, Devaki Kumar Bose award was presented to director Buddhadeb Dasgupta (who was not physically present due to illness) by Gargi Roychowdhury and Mr Gautam Deb. BN Sircar Award is given to Mr Srikant Mohta of Shree Venkatesh Films by Mr Sadhan Pande and Paoli Dam, and Raj Rajjak Award was given to actor Janab Alamgir Hossain by Mr Sanjay Budhia and Rituparna Sengupta. Dr Soma A Chatterjee was conferred The Kailash Mukherjee Award by Mr Debashish Kumar and Subha Prasanna.
The inaugural ceremony was graced by the dance performance of actor and dancer Indrani Dutta and her troupe. This is the third year celebration of the Bengal International Short Film Festival and this year they have received altogether 122 valid film entries from India, Bangladesh, Sudan, Germany and Africa.
Out of these 122 films, 98 are Indian and 24 are foreign films that include the entries from FTTI, SRFTI, and other national and international award-winning institutes. Besides receiving films in Bengali, Hindi, English, Tamil, Urdu, African and Marathi, BISFF has received silent movies also.
With the motive of encouraging and promoting the short filmmakers, BISFF helps the new talents for the overall growth and development of the film industry.
