Bengal taking measures to fight Coronavirus

The West Bengal Government has published a circular on Saturday, March 14 announcing that all schools, colleges and universities in the State will remain closed till March 31, in order to stay safe from the spread of COVID-19. The state government issued a press release which read, “It has been decided that all Government, government- aided, private educational institutions- schools, colleges, universities, madrsahs, SSK / MSK will remain closed from 16 March, 2020 to 31 March 2020 in public interest". The state government had earlier suspended all sporting events till March 31. IIT Kharagpur has already suspended their regular classes to avoid the risk of any threat from the deadly Coronavirus. IIT Kharagpur circulated a notice which read, “Students and campus residents have been advised not to leave the campus. Those students who live outside campus have been instructed to stay at home. Students will be able to avail of online facilities for classroom courses. Laboratory courses, however, would remain suspended until further notice”. V K Tewari, Director of IIT Kharagpur said, “The schools on the premises will also be suspended but the on-going secondary and higher secondary examinations will be conducted as per schedule”. IIM Calcutta too has postponed their annual convocation ceremony which was scheduled to be held on the Joka campus on April 4.
