Bengal Staff Selection Commission to be revived

The Government of West Bengal has recently passed the West Bengal Staff Selection Commission (Repealing) Bill, 2019 in the state Assembly to revive the former West Bengal Staff Selection Commission. The government wants to fill up the vacant posts in various state government offices by using this Staff Selection Commission. This Staff Selection Commission was established back in 2011 but later scrapped by the government in 2017. The bill was passed in the state legislative assembly with 96 MLAs voting in favour of the Bill, and 27 MLAs voting against it. State Law minister Moloy Ghatak said, "An old Bill can be revived if the intention of the legislator is clear. The step has been taken up to revive the West Bengal Staff Selection Commission so that the recruitments can be made within a short time. The whole process has been done as per the provision of the Constitution. There are no financial implications in the Bill". The current state government feels that it’s necessary to revive the West Bengal Staff Selection Commission in order to boost up the recruitment process for the vacant seats in government offices. The government states that its motive behind reviving this erstwhile institution is to fill up the vacant spots so that social schemes introduced by the government can be implemented more effectively.
