Bengal projects bag UN Awards

The two projects of West Bengal Government - Utkarsh Bangla and Sabooj Sathi have been awarded the United Nation's World Summit on Information Society (WSIS) award recently. The Utkarsh Bangla and Sabooj Sathi are two projects of the Bengal government for the people of younger age group.  Under Utkarsh Bangla, youths are provided with skill development training programs in several centres which are setup across the state. It is a project designed to create employment. The youths after completing their training programs are absorbed in different industries. On the other hand, environment friendly cycles of Avon, Hero and Hercules are given out to the students of Classes IX to XII under the Sabooj Sathi project. The West Bengal government reports suggest that lakhs of cycles were given out to the students since the project was implemented. Utkarsh Bangla was placed on the top out of 1062 nominations in 18 categories and it won the award in Capacity Building category. Sabooj Sathi too scored well under ICT application:E-Government category and was ranked in the first five champion projects. The awards were recently received by S K Thade, Principal Secretary, Backward Classes Welfare department and Roshni Sen, Principal Secretary, Technical Education Training and Skill Development department at an event in Geneva. Earlier too, in 2017, the Kanyashree scheme of the Bengal Government was awarded  the highest public service award by United Nations for empowering girls in Bengal.
