Bethune collegiate school on the 13th March, Monday, barred their students appearing for their Madhyamik examinations wearing their wrist-watches, from the examination hall.
WBBSE (The West Bengal Board of Secondary Education) has instructed the schools, which are designated as an examination centre, that candidates will not wear their wrist-watches (both digital and smart-watches) because that can be used for communication and data storage. Guardians who accompanied their wards to the examination centre, complained when students were asked to take off their analogue watches right before entering the hall. Some parents even said, ‘conventional wrist watches can’t be labelled as electronic gadgets, the school should allow them.”
Headmistress Mitali Kundu said, "It’s quite difficult to make a distinction between digital and analogue watches, when there’s a rush to enter the examination centre. We have put up wall-clocks in all 8 rooms so that the candidates don’t face any sort of problem".
Where as, on the other hand, just for this year, the ICSE and ISC examinees will be allowed to wear only analogue wrist watches to the examination venue.
