Last year it was announced that the State government is planning to develop infrastructure to garner more investment in the leather sector at Bantala. Hon’ble Chief Minister of West Bengal Smt. Mamata Banerjee assured that nearly 1.20 lakh people will have additional employment.
This year the promise comes true. The State finance and Industry minister Amit Mishra said on Tuesday that Bantala is all set to become top leather hub across the globe. The minister handed over letters of land allotment to 25 big tanneries at a programme. The Calcutta Leather Complex (CLC) at Bantala will be converted into a mega leather cluster. The government is all set to spend Rs 540 crore and currently, the place has a turnover of Rs 13,500 crore including export and local sale. This will be a 100-crore project.
