Bandel Station To Transform As An International Station With New Long-Distance Trains Starting Soon

Expected to become an international standard rail hub, Bandel Station is about to undergo a major transformation. The experience of travelling by local train in Kolkata will soon be redesigned, much like important junction stations like Jalpaiguri, Guwahati, and trains headed for Delhi. The daily number of travellers is important and expected to increase even more.

Currently, Bandel Station doesn’t cater to any long-distance trains. However, per railway plans, five to six new long-distance services are slated to commence soon from this station.

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has approved plans to upgrade select stations across the country to international standards, with Bandel Station in West Bengal leading the way. The station will soon have 20 escalators and 12 lifts, according to officials, greatly improving accessibility. In the business sector, a number of projects are also being planned, such as rooftop plazas and food plazas.

Moreover, the station building itself will undergo a modern facelift, promising a sleek and contemporary look, with vehicular traffic redirected outside. Emphasis will also be placed on utilizing green energy.
