Late Friday night, he suffered a cardiac arrest and breathed his last at his residence on Farm Side Road in Chinsurah. According to family sources, Arun Chakraborty was physically well. In fact, on Friday, he attended the Junglemahal program at Kolkata's Mohorkunj. However, he caught a cold there, leading to a deterioration in his health.
Although a city-dweller, poet Arun Chakraborty cherished a piece of rural Bengal in his heart. An alumnus of Shibpur Engineering College, he worked at Hindustan Motors. His passion lay in the folk culture of rural Bengal, which he celebrated in his writings. It was this love for folk traditions that earned him recognition.
Family sources have shared that Arun Chakraborty’s mortal remains will be taken from his home to Chinsurah Rabindra Bhavan, where admirers can pay their last respects at an open stage. The final rites will then be performed at Shyambabu's Ghat.
