Are we engaging in an overdose of Tricolour Merchandising?

People seem to be impulsive and on their toes on National festivals and holidays. Republic Day is one of those days when people become uncontrollable patriots and patriotism oozes through by display of several tricolour accessories.

Tricolour merchandising has been much of a trend for a number of years now and seems to be on the rise. People have shown patriotism and love for the country on special occasions like Republic Day, Independence Day, Gandhi Jayanti etc. The sale of various tricoloured items has increased highly. We get to see tricoloured wrist bands, car decors, lanterns, pens, caps, bags, balloons, badges, phone covers, jerseys and other tricolour logos become a fashion statement of sorts.

Looking back a few years from now, a famous television actress, fashion designer, model and television presenter was regarded as a disrespectful Indian when she wore a tricolour saree while hosting the Cricket World Cup 2007 Finals. When she was seen wearing the tricolour below her waist, the Government considered the same as a legal offence.

However, times have changed and probably so have the norms and presently tricolour merchandising is highly in vogue which leaves us pondering if the tricolour will continue as an integral part of fashion for the Indian millennial or be limited to being patriotically aesthetic or will the tricolour come up as a decent mix of bit of both worlds.
