The Bengal Global Business Summit 2018 witnessed the app cab initiators take a step forward for the unemployed by providing a ‘micro-entrepreneurship’ facility. Both companies took an oath while signing a memorandum on Wednesday in association with The West Bengal Transport Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd. With this step towards the development of app cabs it is assumed that the yellow or white metered taxi services are going to face a further set back.
In the memorandum signed by both Ola and Uber, Ola has promised to provide 5,000 cabs to the unemployed youth of the state. The Ola Fleet Technologies shall own the cars to be provided. The total investment is assumed to be Rs. 300 crores approximately. Ola shall proudly provide entrepreneurship opportunities to 5,000 individuals under the State Transport Department.
Alongside Ola, even Uber is trying to bring in ‘micro-entrepreneurship’ facilities. Uber, headquartered in San-Francisco, intends to set up a web portal where eligible drivers can register themselves. The whole procedure will be under the State Government. Uber has technological advancement plans for opportunities that will foster the growth of Bengal and the Bengal also has agreed to embrace the plans that Uber has proposed.
While Uber and Ola are looking forward to bring advancement to the State, the metered taxis have demanded a hike in the initial charges due to the price hikes of diesel along with the high maintenance cost of the cars.
Going by Ola and Uber’s planned structures for the betterment of employment in the state, seems like Bengal will very soon witness an increase in employment.
