It has come to light that Qissa-a Punjabi film by Anup Singh, has won the NETPAC (Network for the Promotion of Asian Cinema) Award for the World or International Asian Film Premiere at the 38th Toronto International Film Festival.
In fact, the film is a co-production between India, Netherlands, Germanyand Franceand stars Tollywood actress Tillotama Shome besides Irrfan Khan, Rasika Duggal and Tisca Chopra. In particular, the film is co-produced by NFDC.
Remarkably, the jury awarded the film "for its sensitive depiction of the issues of identity along with displacement."
The film is set in the post-partition riot afflicted era, which traces the journey of Umber Singh, who attempts to earn a living for himself plus his family, while keeping their true identities of belonging to the Sikh community as undercover.
