Amitabh Bachchan who turned 75 last year is often referred to as ‘BanglarJamai’ since he is married to the legendary actor Jaya Bhaduri. Amitabh Bachchan the ‘angry young man’ of Bollywood has deep emotions attached to the city as he got his first job in Kolkata, before deciding to enter the world of glamour.
This year the Desikottam Award, which is Viswa Bharti’s most prestigious award, shall be conferred upon ‘BanglarJamai’ Amitabh Bachchan.
Renowned names like Satyajit Ray, Mother Teresa, Pandit Ravi Shankar, Lata Mangeshkar, Indira Gandhi, Gulzar, Suniti Kumar Pathak, Jogen Chowdhury and Amitabha Ghosh have been honoured with the Desikottam Award over the years.
This year Bollywood’s ‘angry young man’ Amitabh Bachchan shall be honoured with the award at Shantiniketan along with other nominees, the renowned scientist, Ashok Sen and singer Dwijen Mukhopadhyay.
The Prime Minister Mr Narendra Modi, who automatically happens to be the University Chancellor as per the rules of the University, shall attend the Desikottam Award ceremony.
