Amala Shankar, the legendary dancer and the wife of Uday Shankar steps into her 100th birthday this year and the living legend of the Shankar family was hugely felicitated.
‘Kalpana’, the film by Uday Shankar portrays the life of a young dancer whose dream was to set up a dance academy. The movie also features Amala Shankar. Initially, the film was screened at Festival de Cannes in the year 2012. Surprisingly, her daughter Mamata Shankar also joined her on that particular trip. Now the film will be screened on the occasion of her birthday.
‘Kalpana’ actually has the glimpses of Uday Shankar’s life who finally builds his own dance academy in Almora. This is probably the only directorial effort by a internationally acclaimed dancer.
“There’s still a lot of curiosity around this film. And we have decided to screen it multiple times during celebrations,” said Ratul Shankar, grandson of Uday Shankar.
