Metro Railway and other railway stations will soon be getting modern CCTV cameras installed. Arun Kumar, the Director General of Railway Police Force (RPF) recently reported that these modern CCTV cameras will help in better monitoring of station premises because of its higher resolution and video analytics feature. Non-functional baggage scanners which are lying at some metro stations will also be replaced gradually. The DG of RPF also reported about a recently created anti-TOPB (Theft of Passenger Belongings) team in the Howrah division which successfully arrested 113 criminals and recovered passengers’ belongings worth Rs 2,17,624. The details of these criminals along with other criminals will be fed into a system which would be linked with the advanced CCTVs. This will help the RPF to monitor illegal activities in railway stations. Arun Kumar, the Director General of Railway Police Force (RPF) said, “The moment a suspect’s face is caught on camera, it will be matched with the database. Once it is confirmed that the person is a history-sheeter, an alarm will sound in the control room and the personnel on the ground will be alerted”.
