Bengali literary organisation "Abhibyakti" founded by Ranjana Bhanja, has been active in the audio drama scene since 1986 and has announced the live performance of the audio drama ( srutinatok) adaptation of Bimal Mitra's classic novel " Shaheb Bibi Golaam", to be staged on the 7th April 2018 at the Rabindra Sadan auditorium. It is the story of Patashwari aka Chhoto Bou, a woman who wants to experience romance, to discover it herself, to be a real wife and live a new kind of conjugality.
The audio drama is written and directed by Ranjana Bhanja, this is going to be the first audio performance of a novel in the country. Key performers of the audio theatre includes Tv, film and radio personalities like Jogonnath Basu, Shankar Chakraborty, Alok Roy Ghotok, Ranjana Bhanja, Satinath Mukhopadhyay, Debashish Basu, Sankar Roychowdhury,Soumitro Basu, Kajal Sur, Arindam Basu, Sumana Bhaduri and Sarbari Mukherjee. Theme music has been composed and directed by Utsav Bhanja and the background score has been directed by Santanu Bandyapadhyay. Followers of theatre, poetry and literature have been keen to watch this story develop on the stage since its first Bengali movie adaptation in 1956 starring the legndary Uttam Kumar, Sumitra Devi and Chhabi Biswas. After 56 years, "Shaheb Bibi Golaam" is making its epic comeback with this event, in a whole new format of audio drama or srutinatok.
