Subhojit Sen, 24 died in an accident in Antartica this Wednesday, as stated by the national Centre for Antartic and Ocean Research (NCAOR)
Sen belongs from a small village in West Bengal, he is a passout of IIT Bhubaneshwar, he was an active part of the 37th Indian Scientific Expedition to Antartica, According to sources he died near the Indian research station in Maitri.
He was working on his research on"Deformation — Fabric in sub-glacial till exposed Schirmacher oasis", from November 2017 to April 2018.
Subhojit suffered severe trauma following the accident on Tuesday, while travelling to the Maitri station, said M Ravichandran.
M Ravichandran had stated that, Subhojit Sen met with an accident during convoy operations at Ice Shelf and suffered major trauma on late evening of March 26. Though he was immediately given medical aid at the expedition vessel, where doctors tried to revive him, it went in vain and he died within an hour.
Sen was airlifted to the vessel, the convoy operations were almost completed and the vessel was supposed to sail back to India, according to sources. Flight operations from Antarctica are suspended after February.
