It’s safe to say that fish is an integral part of the Bengali culture and has found a place in almost every Bengali ritual. To promote the fishing business in West Bengal, the State Fisheries Department has planned to cultivate three new fish varieties at Henry’s Island near Bakkhali, South 24 Parganas.
The government has planned to release around 5000 fish seeds of each, Indian groupers and pompano. On top of that, 5 lakh Indian prawn will also be added. The State Fisheries Development Corporation (SFDC) has decided to release a total of 5.1 lakh fertilized fish eggs of these three varieties.
According to a senior SFDC official, these fishes will be made available via their fish selling app. Moreover, it will also be available at the Nalban Food Park.
